MacOrama für den 06. Oktober 2004

macoramaDer Apple vs. Apple Fall dürfte sich weiter hinziehen, da Apple laut MacNewsWorld gerade erst seine Kanzlei ausgetauscht hat: "It is believed that Apple Computer decided to switch legal teams after Linklaters raised the possibility of a settlement said in legal circles to be close to US$35.65 million, far higher than Apple Computer's expectations.[…] There have been frequent suggestions in legal circles in recent weeks that Linklaters was advising its client on a $30.3 million settlement, one of the largest in legal history outside a class-action suit."

Großes Podcasting How-To bei Engadget: "The first part is how to get “Podcasts” on your iPod. So what’s a Podcast? To put it simply, a Podcast is an audio file, a MP3, most likely, in talk show format, along with a way to subscribe to the show and have it automatically delivered to your iPod when you plug in to iTunes. The show isn’t live, so you can listen to it whenever you want."

AT&T gleich doppelt in den Schlagzeilen. Mit einem weiteren Music Store: "In the first foray by a U.S. wireless carrier into the online music market, AT&T Wireless is launching a service that lets subscribers buy songs using their cell phones and later download them to a computer." und durch den angeblichen Wunsch die eigenen 70.000 Rechner von Windows wegzubekommen, was sich allerdings als nicht gänzlich richtig herausstellte: "Mike Dickman, AT&T spokesperson, said reports suggesting AT&T might be considering scrapping Microsoft Windows for Linux are "Fiction. Out of context." He said that AT&T has no intention of dropping Microsoft at this time. Dickman said AT&T CIO Hossein Eslambolchi "is evaluating Linux, Microsoft and Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) operating system platforms just as any responsible CIO would do. These evaluations for the best choice in desktop operating-system platforms are an ongoing process."

Wen schon immer mal das Zeug im CrashReporter interessiert hat, für den dürfte TN2123 nett sein: "CrashReporter is a debugging facility in Mac OS X that logs information about all programs that crash. This technote describes CrashReporter in detail. It includes a description of the crash logs generated by CrashReporter, and how you can use these logs to debug your program."

Nicht alle Analysten sehen Apples kommende Quartalszahlen überpositiv: "Our continuous checks...of over 50 Apple stores and channel partners lead us to conclude that demand (for the G5 iMac), while solid, is not overwhelming," Ms. Cross wrote. "During the last couple of weeks of September, most stores weren't keeping lists (of people wanting iMacs) as they had done for iPod mini's." Ms. Cross credited her contention that G5 iMacs have not sold phenomenally well by noting that Apple has not put out a press release since the announcement of the G5 iMac on August 31st indicating the number of pre-orders for the product, "as they had done earlier this year for the iPod mini and AirPort Express." Bei TMO.

PowerBooks werden laut Think Secret derzeit eher vor Ort repariert: "For the next six to eight weeks, Apple is requesting that US and European service providers with portable technicians on staff repair the laptops at their own locations rather than mail them in to the repair center."
