David Kirkpatrick beleuchtet die neuaufgeflammte Apple+Intel Diskussion: "FORTUNE has learned that Apple, Intel, and several PC companies already have the Mac OS X operating system working on Intel chips in their labs. And then there's the fact that more PC users are considering switching away from Windows. There are more Mac fanatics now than ever before. The Mac OS X operating system is superb, especially in its new “Tiger” version, and Apple’s brilliant iPod is this decade’s signature tech device so far."

Über die Entstehung des Mac-Starttons: "The startup sound was done in my home studio on a Korg Wavestation. It's a C Major chord, played with both hands stretched out as wide as possible (with 3rd at the top, if I recall). This just sounded right to me. I wanted something really fat, heavy bass, high notes, and a sharp attack. The chiffy sound was from pan pipes and something like a stick hit (I'm testing my memory here). Update: The Register glaubt eher an sorgfältige Eigenwerbung für zukünftige Intel-Chips: "In a larger context, Otellini is clearly waving the flag now for this future product, saying the PCs you have really must be replaced if you want to operate a secure business. It's nice that Microsoft and Intel can benefit from the insecure world they've nurtured for so long."

Solange die Teile nicht tatsächlich auf dem Markt sind, werde ich sie in die Kategorie 'Scherz' einteilen. Wie man (s)ein Produkt ernsthaft so hässlich gestalten und zusätzlich iMuffs nennen kennen kann, übersteigt mein Nachvollziehvermögen. Preis und Erscheinungstermin sind unklar, die Funktionalität ist natürlich nett: Bluetooth Kopfhörer für den iPod, die zusätzlich mit dem Bluetooth-tauglichen Mobiltelefon gekoppelt werden können (und bei eingehenden Anrufen die Musik brav pausieren lassen).

Piper Jaffray erwartet 5,5 Millionen verkaufte iPods für das laufende Quartal (5,3 Millionen waren es im letzten Quartal): "The bottom line from our checks is that while we are not expecting significant upside to June [third] quarter numbers, Apple's business appears to be solid in what is typically a seasonally slower period."
