iBook und PowerBook Trackpad graduell drucksensitiv (Update)

Bei Boing Boing:
"A blog from the Queens University Human Media Lab reports that the PowerBook/iBook trackpad can sense not only x and y data, but z-axis as well, being sensitive to pressure gradients."

Weshalb es FingaMIDI gibt (Screenshot), was momentan allerdings nur unter X.2 läuft:
"FingaMIDI is a replacement driver for the ADB trackpad found in the Apple G4 Ti PowerBook and probably the Snow iBook, G4 iBook and aluminium PowerBooks. It allows the inbuilt trackpad to be used as a three-axis MIDI controller, sending x, y and z (pressure) data as parameter change messages. The trackpad button sends middle-C note on and note off messages."

Dabei könnte man sich an ein schönes Gerücht aus 2002 zurückerinnern, in dem den zukünftigen Apple Trackpads (im Zusammenhang mit InkWell, worum es ganz schön still geworden ist in den letzten Monaten/Jahren) wundersame Eingabemöglichkeiten vorhergesagt wurden. Da es allerdings MacOSRumors entsprudelte, darf man ruhig davon ausgehen, dass dies so auf gar keinen Fall eintreffen wird...

Update:
Die Meldung nimmt einen leichten Gähn/Gurken-Faktor an, wenn man sich die Spezifikationen bei Synaptics.com anschaut, die unter anderem die Trackpads für Apple fertigen:
"The Z value reports the total finger capacitance, which is a function of the finger’s contact area, which in turn is affected by the contact pressure and by the angle at which the finger is held."

Insofern also weder etwas neues, noch rein Apple spezifisch.

Wer mit seinem Trackpad fröhlich herumspielen will, sollte sich deshalb lieber (altbekannt und allseits beliebt) SideTrack zuwenden:
• Vertical scrolling at left or right edge of pad.
• Horizontal scrolling at top or bottom edge of pad.
• Map hardware button to left or right click.
• Map trackpad taps to no action, left click, left click drag (with or without drag lock), or right click.
• Compatible with uControl, including uControl's scroll emulation.
