MacOrama für den 01. Juli 2004

"Apple is happy to have made a significant contribution to this next generation plugin technology," said Philip Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Apple is a strong advocate for web standards and will ensure that Mac OS X Safari users have access to the latest standards-based web technology."

Dashboard is not a rip-off of Konfabulator. Yes, they are doing very much the same thing. But what it is that they’re doing was not an original idea to Konfabulator. The scope of a “widget” is very much the modern-day equivalent of a desk accessory."

Eric Bangeman schreibt in der Mac.Ars Kolumne über .Mac im Lichte von Gmail etc.: "Storage is relatively inexpensive these days, much cheaper than when iTools was first announced four-and-a-half years ago. It's time for Apple to pass on some of those cost savings to its customers. Give .Mac users 250MB of e-mail space, and another 250MB of iDisk room. No one likes to go through their e-mail folders and iDisks and delete and/or archive stuff. And there's no reason that .Mac should have to do that with their e-mail.

"Rendezvous technology is now available on Windows 2000 and XP. This preview release includes full link-local support, allowing Windows machines to discover advertised HTTP and FTP servers using Internet Explorer. It also includes a printer setup wizard which allows Windows machines to print to Rendezvous networked printers, including USB shared printers connected to the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express Base Stations. With the included Rendezvous SDK, Windows and Java developers can begin the process of adding Rendezvous service discovery to their applications." Auf Apple's Entwicklerseiten.

"No fewer than three Enterprise developers have announced support for the Mac today. Oracle announced that it will support the Mac platform with Oracle JDeveloper 10g and Oracle Database 10g; NetSuite has announced that it will support Safari for its Web services; and PeopleSoft announced it was extending its support for Safari to cover PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne solutions. The three announcements greatly increase the Mac's support base in the Enterprise and IT markets." TMO.
