Bloomberg über den iPod, der Sony selbst auf dem japanischen Markt empfindlich schwächt: "In September, the Sony chief financial officer, Katsumi Ihara, lamented Apple's lead. "Our personal audio business isn't performing to our expectations - partly because of iPod, which has become a fashion," Ihara said. "We must avoid having Apple take over our image in the personal audio category."

Virex 7.5 für .mac-Kunden wurde nach Mailbox-Löschdesastern ziemlich schnell kommentarlos vom Netz genommen; seit letzter Woche ist klammheimlich 7.5.1 aufgetaucht und scheint bisher weitgehend problemfrei aufgenommen worden zu sein. Die Desasterfunktion aus 7.5 wurde dabei einfachheitshalber deaktiviert wie im ReadMe zu lesen ist: "Scan Contents of Mailboxes -- This Preferences feature of Virex 7.5.0 has been removed from Virex 7.5.1," reads the documentation. "This product is not meant to be utilized for scanning mails and mailboxes." Vereinzelt treten Inkompatibilitäten mit dem Distiller, Probleme beim Hochfahren sowie exzessive Prozessorauslastung auf.

Während einem Wirtschaftsredakteur von SpOn Apples derzeitiger Höhenflug an der Börse ebensowenig geheuer ist wie das vorgestern im MacOrama gemeldete $ 100-Kursziel von PiperJaffrays, folgt nun auch eine Kaufempfehlung von Needham&Co. Das größte Konsumereignis des Jahres rückt heran und so trommelt auch Apple fleißig für das jüngste  Kind der iPod-Familie. Und zitiert dazu den Houston Chronicle, in dem sich Mac-Buchautor Bob Levitus vor Begeisterung für seinen mittlerweile sechsten (!) iPod, den iPod photo beinahe überschlägt. "The new iPod photo stores not only your songs, but also your digital pictures. The 2-inch color display is the best little color display I’ve seen, and I’ve heard many remarks about its clarity and rich, saturated images. Photos look amazing, and iPod photo stores and displays album art for songs which have cover art available." Gut werben läßt sich auch mit einem Artikel des britischen Magazins Digit. Dessen Autorin Cathy Lu ist in einer Review mindestens ebenso angetan wie Levitus. "Loading images onto the iPod Photo is simpler than heating up a microwave meal. (...) Once images are loaded, scrolling through thumbnails - even hundreds of them - is lightning fast." Apple veröffentlicht den Bluetooth Firmware Updater 1.2 für den D-Link USB-Adapter (Revision B2 oder jünger) sowie die internen Apple Bluetoothmodule der PowerBooks und PowerMacs (1,3 Megabyte). Die Warnhinweise des Beipackzettels: Andere Bluetoothmodule werden nicht unterstützt und der D-Link USB-Bluetoothadapter ist anschließend inkompatibel mit Nicht-Macintoshs. (jpf)
