MacOrama für den 15. Juli 2005 [Update_2]

Zu einer Zeit als der Apple-Intel-Switch noch ein krudes Gerücht darstellte, sprach Steve Jobs auf der D:All Things Digital-Konferenz mit Walt Mossberg (mehr dazu hier und hier im fscklog). Der erste (von zehn) Mitschriftteilen ist bei AlwaysOn nachzulesen, darin wird die Zukunft des iPod diskutiert:
"Mossberg: Let me ask you about another iteration on the iPod: wirelessness. Four or five years ago, you came up with the digital hub. The Macintosh—and we can expand it to say the personal computer in general—is the hub; everything goes through it; everything plugs into it. Why? With the internet out there and available wirelessly, shouldn't I be able to have an iPod-type device that avoids the need to go through a PC or a Mac?
Jobs: Those are two questions. Number one is should we integrate wireless networking into an iPod someday. And yes, maybe that makes sense. Again, you've got constraints. Wireless networking like 802.11 takes a lot of battery life, and you want your player to last as long as possible. Wireless networking takes a lot of power."

Update: Cringelys dieswöchige Kolumne sei nicht vergessen, darin ist alles versammelt, was man sich im Sommerloch nur wünschen kann: Intel, IBM, Apple, Filme, iTunes, iPod video und 'retinal scan displays': "Good pricing is not enough reward for Steve Jobs kicking IBM in the corporate groin at the behest of Intel. Let's guess, then, that not only will ClickStar morph into ITMS, but that Intel's "digital home entertainment devices" will be ITMS-compliant. No Microsoft, no Real, just H.264, FairPlay, and something behind Door Number Three, where we'll find yet another shoe. This third shoe is Apple's closeout sale on the iPod Photo, which is suddenly and inexplicably $150-off all over town. Get ready for the Video iPod, which will presumably be available from more than just Apple. HP is already on board and these clues suggest Intel is likely there, too."

Update_2: Ein Interview enthüllt weitere Details zur PornTastatur. So werden momentan bereits Gespräche mit Herstellern geführt, die Tastatur könnte vielleicht in einem Jahr auf den Markt kommen, wird sich dann aber wohl im 200 bis 300$ Rahmen bewegen. "We've thought about the first "open-source keyboard". There will be an SDK and some user "keyboard studio" application which will allow keyboard to be customized for any mode or application in any way imaginable, from DVORAK to arranging letters in alphabetical order." Apples Anleitung zur Vermeidung von .DS_Store Dateien auf Netzwerklaufwerken (nicht ganz frisch, dreht aber momentan nochmals die Runde) ist recht simpel: Im Terminal defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true eingeben und neustarten. Aber aufgepasst: "If you do not already have an opinion on this matter, you can disregard this article." (via mosxh)

Carbon Copy Cloner läuft offenbar wieder unter 10.4.2, zum Selbsttest kam ich bisher leider noch nicht. Version 3 steht zudem bevor, so ein Moderator des CCC-Forums bei Versiontracker. (Danke, Florian!)
Manuelles Klonen ging bei Tom problemlos, Fehlermeldung gab es allerdings beim 'Dauerauftrag'.
