Project Origami - MS auf der Suche nach dem Hype [Update_2]

Microsofts Antwort auf 'fun new products' lautet origamiproject.com, eine kryptische Webseite, die seit gestern erreichbar ist und sofort akuten Schlafdrang auslöst. Mehr über das Origami-Projekt soll am 2. März enthüllt werden - zwei Tage nach Apples Special Event. Bislang wird hauptsächlich in Richtung mini-Tablet bzw. tragbarer Medienabspieler mit Touchscreen spekuliert; Steve Jobs erwähnte erst kürzlich, dass er mit direkter iPod-Konkurrenz aus Redmond rechnet. Acer will im März zudem den Mp-500 auf den europäischen Markt werfen. Dieser soll mit 3,5" Touchscreen (320x240), 20 bzw. 40GB Festplatte, TV-Out rund 300/350 EUR kosten. 4 Stunden Akkulaufzeit werden für Video, 8 Stunden bei Musik versprochen. Bild nach dem Klick.

Update_2: «Microsoft acknowledges that the video generally reflects a concept it has been working on, along with unnamed partners, but it says that video that has emerged is a year old and reflects only its "initial exploration" into the concept. However, in a statement, the company promises more details "in the coming weeks"», so Todd Bishop. Entsprechend soll es kommenden Donnerstag auch keine wirkliche Produktankündigung geben, sondern lediglich einige weitere Details. «Richard Doherty, the president of Envisioneering, a consumer electronics consulting firm, said that his company had received an invitation to a briefing for analysts at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Wash., on Thursday. "It's a 'technology' we've been invited to see," Mr. Doherty said. "That could be all kinds of things. But a device that is near to shipping would be surprising. If Microsoft was working with any of the major chip makers on a new device, it would be a long shot that that piece of information would not slip out until the product was almost ready"», ergänzt John Markoff für die NYT.
