Januar 2007 soll zum Monat der "Apple-Bugs" werden [Update]

Schon der "Month of Kernel Bugs" hatte seinen Fokus erheblich auf OS X-Schwachstellen gelegt, aber offenbar noch lange nicht alles an vorhandener Munition verbraucht. Der dahintersteckende 'LMH' will im Zusammenspiel mit Kevin Finisterre (der bereits in diversen Sicherheitsupdates für OS X als Tippgeber Erwähnung fand) den kommenden Januar zum "Month of Apple Bugs" ausrufen, wie Brian Krebs bei Security Fix schreibt. Die im November veröffentlichten Lücken erwiesen sich größtenteils als nicht allzu dramatisch, ein Sicherheitsupdate lieferte Apple bislang als direkte Reaktion darauf. Auch im Januar soll allerdings Apple wieder nicht vor der Veröffentlichung über die Schwachstellen in Kenntnis gesetzt werden. «LMH said that while his upcoming project had the potential to at least temporarily make security more tenuous for the average Mac user, he believes that in the long run the project will improve OS X security.»
Update: «Some of the bugs "might represent a significant risk," LMH said in an e-mail interview. "Others have a lower impact on security. We are trying to develop working exploits for every issue we find." The two hackers plan to disclose bugs in the Mac OS X kernel as well as in software such as Safari, iTunes, iPhoto and QuickTime, LMH said. Some of the bugs will also affect versions of Apple's software designed to run on Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system, he added.» IDG News Service.
