John Markoff sprach für die New York Times (Artikel 1, Artikel 2) mit Steve Jobs und entlockte ihm eine Reihe von interessanten Zitaten: “I’m going to be the first one in line to buy one of these,” so Jobs über das MacBook Air. “I’ve been lusting after this.” Rund 100 Design-Prototypen brauchte es bis zum endgültigen Formfaktor des MacBook Air.
Über Amazon MP3:
«“They’re trying to create a competitor to iTunes by denying us D.R.M.-free music,” he said. He noted, however, that because one major label, EMI, and independent music producers are selling D.R.M.-free music through Apple, iTunes customers now have access to what he said was about 35 percent of the market without copy protection. “It’s been frustrating us a little,” he acknowledged. “The music industry and iTunes need to find a way to work together because we’re the best vehicle they have.”»
Über Amazons Ebook-Reader Kindle:
«“It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore,” he said. “Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”»
Über Googles Android:
«“Having created a phone its a lot harder than it looks,” he said. “We’ll see how good their software is and we’ll see how consumers like it and how quickly it is adopted.” In seeking not to get locked out of the mobile phone world, “I actually think Google has achieved their goal without Android, and I now think Android hurts them more than it helps them. It’s just going to divide them and people who want to be their partners.”»
Über Bill Gates Abschied von Microsoft:
«“Bill’s retiring from Microsoft is a big deal,” he said. “It’s a significant event, and I think he should be honored for the contributions he’s made.”»
Update 17.01.2008 16:15 Uhr: Weitere Interviews mit Jobs führten CNBC und Peter Burrows.
