Steve Jobs über P.A. Semi-Kauf: Talent und Technologie [Update]

Während der Konferenzschaltung zu den jüngsten Quartalszahlen bügelten Apples COO Tim Cook und CFO Peter Oppenheimer die Nachfrage zum Aufkauf des PowerPC-Chipentwicklers P.A. Semi lediglich mit derselben Floskel ab, die vorher schon ein Pressesprecher mehrfach verkündet hatte - Apple kaufe eben ab und zu kleine Technologiefirmen, darüber hinaus: Kein Kommentar. Immerhin konnte Nick Wingfield für das Wall Street Journal eine gewohnt interpretationswürdige Aussage aus Steve Jobs persönlich herauskitzeln: «Mr. Jobs said the acquisition of P.A. had "everything to do with their talent and, in some cases, their technology" and that Apple intends to use the company's expertise in its portable electronics products. "To get the silicon we need to be able to run the sophisticated software we want to run on iPhones and iPods, you can't just go out and buy the chips off the shelf to do that," he said.» (Danke, Simon!)
Update 18:20 Uhr: Zwei weitere Anmerkungen aus demselben Interview mit Steve Jobs im Business Technology Blog des WSJ: «“We have a great partnership with Intel,” Jobs said. “We expect that to continue forever.”» Pläne für eine Rückkehr zum PowerPC gäbe es keine, so Jobs: «“I wouldn’t lose too much sleep over that,” he said. “We’re very happy with Intel.”»
