Die erste Berichterstattungswelle kam, als die Pläne von Apple und der Virginia Tech University zum Bau eines billigen Supercomputers bekannt wurden. Gefolgt von einer zweiten etwas kleineren, als erhebliches Bildmaterial auftauchte, welches eine traumhafte Ansammlung von Dual G5s zeigte. Und nun folgt die dritte Welle: das Monster wird in Betrieb genommen.

"Der Supercomputer erzielte beim Linpack Benchmark einen Wert von 17,6 TFlops (trillion floating point operations per second). Somit muss er sich nur dem berühmten Earth Simulator geschlagen geben."

I even had the thrill of turning on six of the machines myself. We joked about kicking off the power and turning it back on just to hear the din of the system chime from 1,100 Macs."
